Team & structure How SRIT is organised
The IT and Technology Resources Department is responsible for:
- strengthening digital governance across the administration and the teaching and research units;
- building users’ capabilities;
- developing information and decision-support systems;
- maintaining and securing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.
Make-up
SRIT comprises four units and one committee:
- the Networks and Systems unit ;
- the Development unit ;
- the Maintenance and Support unit ;
- the Security unit ;
- the Project Coordination and Information Systems committee.

- Systems administration: managing servers, operating systems and system software (installation, service configuration, performance monitoring, troubleshooting).
- Network and systems security: firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, security policies and user training.
- Identity and access management: user access rights, authentication and access-control mechanisms to protect sensitive information.
- Backup and data recovery: backup strategies for critical data and the ability to recover after a disaster or loss.
- User technical support: help with network, systems and software problems.
- Technology monitoring and updates: tracking new software and hardware releases, assessing their relevance and planning their roll-out.
- Documentation and training: documenting network and system configurations, and training users in safe, effective use.
Development Unit
Responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and deploying software and applications.
- Requirements analysis and specification: gathering requirements from users and stakeholders and translating them into clear technical specifications.
- Software design: defining the architecture, selecting technologies and planning structure and features.
- Programming and coding: writing source code using the appropriate languages and frameworks.
- Testing and debugging: thorough testing, identifying and fixing defects.
- Integration and deployment: integrating into the existing environment and releasing to production.
- Maintenance and updates: regular updates, security patches and functional improvements.
- Documentation: documenting code, processes, configurations and operating procedures.
- User training: supporting end users with new applications and features.
Maintenance and Support Unit
Responsible for keeping hardware and software running and available.
- Preventive hardware maintenance: cleaning, checking connections and updating drivers to prevent failures.
- Hardware diagnosis and repair: replacing parts, repairing components and liaising with suppliers.
- Hardware installation and configuration: computers, printers, routers and switches, in keeping with infrastructure compatibility.
- Software maintenance and updates: security patches, updates and compatibility between applications and systems.
- User technical support: help resolving hardware and software problems.
- Stock and resource management: equipment availability and purchasing plans.
- Documentation and job tracking: a record of jobs carried out, problems encountered and solutions applied.
- IT asset inventory: a detailed record of UFHB equipment (desktops, laptops, servers, printers, network gear, software, etc.), with users, contracts, locations, dates and warranties.
- Pre-acceptance: checking deliveries for compliance, visual inspection and basic testing before formal acceptance.
- Specification compliance checks: comparing actual specifications against those ordered, including performance testing.
- Hardware roll-out: physical installation, network connection, basic configuration and installation of the required software.
The unit is central to keeping equipment available and reliable, through effective preventive and corrective maintenance and hands-on technical support.
Security Unit
Responsible for protecting IT systems, data and networks against cyber threats and attacks.
- Security risk management: identifying, assessing and addressing threats and vulnerabilities.
- Security policy: standards and procedures ensuring compliance and the protection of digital assets.
- Continuous systems monitoring: detecting suspicious activity, intrusions and potential incidents.
- Incident detection and response: analysis, response and remediation plans to restore security.
- Security awareness: campaigns and training in good practice, reducing the risk of social engineering and human error.
- Penetration testing and assessment: identifying weaknesses and recommending corrective measures.
- Security technology management: firewalls, intrusion detection, antivirus, encryption, CCTV and automated access control.
